Host Jeff Commings counts the score to "Jurassic Park" as the gateway to becoming a John Williams fan, and he's joined by David Kay to talk about the aspects of the score that introduced a generation of people to Williams' music. They talk at length about the rousing fanfare that plays at the introduction to the island where the bulk of the action takes place, as well as the uncharacteristically gentle music that shows the dinosaurs for the first time. There is plenty of terror music for the dangerous raptors that consume half the humans on the island, and the two also ponder why Spielberg and/or Williams decided to change the music for a part of the finale.

I agree re T Rex Rescue & Finale, the aggression of that writing is fantastic and it’s a shame it was dropped. The performance and recording of the orchestra by Shawn Murphy is particularly outstanding, during that cue especially.

Jeff, good episode! I love how you saw Jurassic Park as the movie soundtrack that turned you on to John Williams' music. For me, I was already in my thirties and it was not a film that made me a fan, more like another monument to admire in his long line of monumental achievements. My ears perked up when I saw The Cowboys way back in 1972, but I knew who he was since 1965's Lost in Space. I am confident, long after we are gone, many other kids will be enraptured by JW's music!
